Churches have a largely untapped capacity to help the homeless by offering compassion, meaningful asistance, and pathways toward independence. We support churches of all denominations with homelessness-related ‘next-step’ initiatives. We are based in Cape Town, South Africa.

Serita approached one of our partner churches for assistance in applying for her ID book. Her application was successful. This will definitely help her find a job.
Gherswon dreams of working on a cruise ship and already has the necessary certificates. Next-Step was able to assist with improving his CV and apply for his police clearance.
Precious successfully received treatment for substance abuse at one of our partner agencies. Next-Step assists with the cost of transport for her to repatriate to KZN province.
Having lived on the streets, Mpumzi wants to do further studies. Next-Step assisted by paying for his ID Book and replacement of his Grade 12 certificate, which he lost.
Simbonile applied to a Next-Step partner to finance his security training and related travel cost. We also secured a place for him at a temporary shelter.
Natalie contracted TB while living on the streets. She urgently needed help with transport cost and fees for collecting the prescription for treatment.

We inspire, train, and financially support our partners.
We assess individuals experiening homelessness and assists with their 'next-step'. Some individuals obtained a new passport or ID book. Others received training and secured a job.
Our church in Bellville supports MES Cape Town who have established a very strong outreach and social relief service that meets the immediate and short-term needs of the homeless and unemployed community.
We support Salesean Youth Projects, providing for the physical, educational, and spiritual needs of youth at risk through education, counselling, recreation, and training, in a professional, caring, and secure environment.
St Adrews supports Straatwerk, offering unemployable people participation in a job-rehab programme, giving them an opportunity to earn cash in hand for honest, hard work as an alternative to begging or resorting to crime.
Our vision is rooted in biblical principles, as well as modern therapeutic practices. We work together with government, churches and other charities to jointly alleviate homelessness. We believe in development, not dependency.
Through our partners we identify key barriers for homeless individuals that prevents them from transitioning towards recovery. Our work focuses on practical support, personal development, and human connection. We meet people where they are, listen to their stories, and help them take their next step - toward stability, responsibility, and renewed purpose.

While many charities focus on recurring relief, such as providing food, clothing and shelter, we contribute to these efforts with our Next-Step approach. We promote targeted, once-off interventions for homeless individuals to overcome key barriers in their lives, whether it’s securing an ID, reconnecting with family, or finding a job placement. We discourage getting deeply involved with any one individual.
